Roof Tent Reviews

MyWay roof tent finds good favour pitched against alternative brands in a group test by Land Rover World Magazine.

All roof tent manufacturers were asked to offer their tents for scrutiny yet only a few brands appeared to submit their products with confidence.

No Chinese produced offering appeared up for scrutiny. There was also a couple of brands missing you would have expected to see, considering their popularity and marketing blurb!

Explorer Overland/Off Road Trailer

explorer-trailerLast year we finally put together the Explorer trailer in its final guise after a rigorous 2 year trial.

Designed to support a Roof Top Tent, opposed to a Trailer Top Tent, this small nimble unit has proved itself over the past 2 years covering approximately 15,000 miles through the UK, Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Holland and Poland without falter.

More details will be uploaded to the web site soon but, CLICK HERE to read an article kindly written by Land Rover World in their March 2013 issue.

We are also privileged to have had the Explorer Trailer chosen to support satellite communication systems for use with the Tri-Services.

MyWay Voyager GT or LSE?

Not decided yet??!!

Here is our extended version of our Voyager Trailer in Tomb Rader colours. What do you think?

Features:

  • An extra 2 foot nose length to accommodate an extra locker
  • Running board extensions to streamline the extra length
  • In fills to neaten the space under the side lockers
  • Experimental rear mounted spare wheel

In test the trailer tows very well with zero tendencies to pitch or snake. The extra nose weight (compensated slightly by the rear mounted spare wheel) is not so excessive as to make un-hitched maneuvering impossible (like some brands I can mention) and reversing is easier.

I guess at the moment approximately 40 kilos has been added to the Voyager making a fully kitted GT/LSE shy of 800kilos.

The cost of making a GT/LSE version has not yet been calculated but we would not be too far out between £8-900; still several thousands of £’s better value than any comparable product.

Keep watching the blog for additions we are adding to our Explorer trailer and consequently updates to our web site on this versatile small unit.

MyWay Expands its Market

MyWay expands its market to a very warm reception – Loon op Zand Land Rover Show, Netherlands

Based in the Netherlands Bas4 Cars www.bas4cars.nl  is a very successful family run business specialising in 4×4 sales, servicing and accessories. It was an honour therefore to be asked to represent MyWay within their presentation at the Loon op Zand Land Rover show on the 11th March.

Armed with our Discovery and matching Explorer trailer, supporting roof tents, awning and a quantity of Camp Cover accessories, we boarded the boat from Hull to Rotterdam and then made the 1 hour trip to Loon op Zand.

Thankfully English is spoken by every Dutchman but to aid communication with our hosts and build on relations we packed the Engel with Crabbies Ginger Beer, Henleys Cider, Lincolnshire Sausages and Border Biscuits, the best ambassadors available. Needless to say we were made to feel most welcome and did our very best for Anglo/ Dutch relations.

The show was a small but very well organised lakeside event and very well attended. Entry was free and trade pitches were very reasonably priced. Unlike UK shows I soon noticed not so much a disregard for health and safety, rather a healthy attitude toward common sense which I’m sure had bearing on the costs and popularity of this event. Many families attended the event and children, by means of healthy exposure had a wonderful time tending the fires, whittling the wood and playing by the lake totally aware of their surroundings and dangers.

The lack of “scrap” sorry “auto jumble” gave the show a quality air which resulted in attracting good clientele with a willingness to spend good money on quality products. Needless to say Camp Cover goods sold exceptionally well and many enquiring people were quick to recognise the quality and innovation built into MyWay tents.

The Dutch do hospitality very well but none more so than Bas4Cars. Set up primarily for hospitality, trade came second to offering customers old and new a genuine warm welcome with a drink and a bite to eat.  The whole Bas team undertook this task tirelessly and with pleasure which communicated their dedication to their work, customers and fellow colleagues.

A wonderful time was had by all at the Loon op Zand show and we can perhaps take a few leaves out of the book on how we should approach the shows here in the UK.
I’d like to thank Bas, Hann, Jack and big Hann for their warm invite and thank all our new Dutch customers who made us very welcome.

Maybe next year the Dutch Land Rover Show may be an event you wish to attend?
An hour from Rotterdam, journeying couldn’t be easier and you would receive nothing but a very warm welcome wherever you visit from the very hospitable Dutch.

MyWay and Camp Cover Merge

Nicky from MyWay at the MyWay/Camp Cover Stand, Peterborough Show 2011

Over the past 6 years, despite the recession, MyWay has grown and become dominant in the UK roof tent market thanks to innovative designs, glowing magazine reviews and endorsements from key people in the industry.

With much interest from abroad MyWay is now planning to promote the brand in mainland Europe and hopefully grow, and develop, using a similar successful business plan.

However, such growth needs continual investment which has become quite a challenge in the current economic climate.

Camp Cover, www.campcover.co.za, is South Africa’s leading manufacturer of expedition grade storage covers and bags, with a reputation for outstanding quality and service.

Although a name unfamiliar in the UK, unknowingly for many years the UK’s off-road and overland communities have been using Camp Cover gear disguised as more familiar brands.

Wanting to expand within the European market and emerge the brand from hiding, Camp Cover recognised the achievements of Myway and this year offered the entire Camp Cover range to be distributed through MyWay UK.

With strong initial sales and interest in the brands from trade and retail customers abroad, it became obvious that the relationship was complementary and should be further developed.

Realising the similarity of business and business plan, with a larger production ability, it made economic sense for Camp Cover to bring MyWay in house to pool resources and improve efficiency.

With stronger promotional abilities the MyWay/Camp Cover brands are now set to expand into mainland Europe with an attractive package for any trade interest.

Camp Cover and MyWay are now working to expand the ranges further and are considering at least one ground tent offering and a range of premium Canvas and Leather goods.

Out of Africa with MyWay

Jerry and Lisa homebound after 2 years travelling with a MyWay through Africa.

We send our best wishes to Jerry and Lisa after finishing their Cape Town to Cairo leg of their epic journey. Their journey is not over yet though debating the problems of travelling to Turkey via Syria.

You can follow their travels at their wonderful web site http://off2africa.synthasite.com/egypt.php and see outstanding photographs of their journey at www.off2africa.net.

We are obviously delighted they chose a MyWay for their journey and delighted it was put to proper use.

MyWay Roof Tent Sales up 50%!

Despite an ever worsening economy, roof tent sales are up by 50% this year.

After a poor start early in the year, thanks to an ill-timed increase in VAT, Easter’s good weather spawned immediate demand. Thanks also to a glowing review in the Land Rover Owner Magazine, clearly favouring Myway, sales continued to be strong despite unavoidable price increases. With good stocks we have been able to quickly meet this demand and have increased our stock level pre-empting our continued growing share of the market and interests from abroad.

Many thanks to all who endorse MyWay and continue to communicate the merits over alternative brands, without which we wouldn’t have a trade.

As we move forward we are delighted to introduce the Camp Cover range to our stocks and delight in having another South African premium product to offer as we strive to supply only the best!
