MyWay Expands its Market

MyWay expands its market to a very warm reception – Loon op Zand Land Rover Show, Netherlands

Based in the Netherlands Bas4 Cars www.bas4cars.nl  is a very successful family run business specialising in 4×4 sales, servicing and accessories. It was an honour therefore to be asked to represent MyWay within their presentation at the Loon op Zand Land Rover show on the 11th March.

Armed with our Discovery and matching Explorer trailer, supporting roof tents, awning and a quantity of Camp Cover accessories, we boarded the boat from Hull to Rotterdam and then made the 1 hour trip to Loon op Zand.

Thankfully English is spoken by every Dutchman but to aid communication with our hosts and build on relations we packed the Engel with Crabbies Ginger Beer, Henleys Cider, Lincolnshire Sausages and Border Biscuits, the best ambassadors available. Needless to say we were made to feel most welcome and did our very best for Anglo/ Dutch relations.

The show was a small but very well organised lakeside event and very well attended. Entry was free and trade pitches were very reasonably priced. Unlike UK shows I soon noticed not so much a disregard for health and safety, rather a healthy attitude toward common sense which I’m sure had bearing on the costs and popularity of this event. Many families attended the event and children, by means of healthy exposure had a wonderful time tending the fires, whittling the wood and playing by the lake totally aware of their surroundings and dangers.

The lack of “scrap” sorry “auto jumble” gave the show a quality air which resulted in attracting good clientele with a willingness to spend good money on quality products. Needless to say Camp Cover goods sold exceptionally well and many enquiring people were quick to recognise the quality and innovation built into MyWay tents.

The Dutch do hospitality very well but none more so than Bas4Cars. Set up primarily for hospitality, trade came second to offering customers old and new a genuine warm welcome with a drink and a bite to eat.  The whole Bas team undertook this task tirelessly and with pleasure which communicated their dedication to their work, customers and fellow colleagues.

A wonderful time was had by all at the Loon op Zand show and we can perhaps take a few leaves out of the book on how we should approach the shows here in the UK.

MyWay and Camp Cover Merge

Over the past 6 years, despite the recession, MyWay has grown and become dominant in the UK roof tent market thanks to innovative designs, glowing magazine reviews and endorsements from key people in the industry.

With much interest from abroad MyWay is now planning to promote the brand in mainland Europe and hopefully grow, and develop, using a similar successful business plan.

However, such growth needs continual investment which has become quite a challenge in the current economic climate.

Camp Cover, www.campcover.co.za, is South Africa’s leading manufacturer of expedition grade storage covers and bags, with a reputation for outstanding quality and service.

Although a name unfamiliar in the UK, unknowingly for many years the UK’s off-road and overland communities have been using Camp Cover gear disguised as more familiar brands.

Wanting to expand within the European market and emerge the brand from hiding, Camp Cover recognised the achievements of Myway and this year offered the entire Camp Cover range to be distributed through MyWay UK.

With strong initial sales and interest in the brands from trade and retail customers abroad, it became obvious that the relationship was complementary and should be further developed.

Realising the similarity of business and business plan, with a larger production ability, it made economic sense for Camp Cover to bring MyWay in house to pool resources and improve efficiency.

With stronger promotional abilities the MyWay/Camp Cover brands are now set to expand into mainland Europe with an attractive package for any trade interest.

Camp Cover and MyWay are now working to expand the ranges further and are considering at least one ground tent offering and a range of premium Canvas and Leather goods.
